If you want to bend the ear of Washington County District Attorney Kevin Barton, you’ll have a chance Wednesday, April 16.
The Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a question and answer session with Barton at the AC Hotel in Beaverton.
“Q&A With Local Legislators” is a program by the Business Advocacy Council, a council of the chamber of commerce.
The April 16 event, sponsored by NW Natural, runs from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and both chamber members and the public are invited.
Alicia Bermes, president and CEO of the chamber, said, “We do this every other month … We invite a local elected official in, and we kind of do a back and forth, asking them questions about things that are relevant.”
Bermes said guests submit questions ahead of time.
“It’s designed to help our businesses primarily, but also the community to become more connected with the local elected officials,” Bermes said, noting it’s important for the community to know how to contact officials and feel heard.
These meet and greets have been held for over two years, according to Bermes, and recent guests have included Beaverton Mayor Lacey Beaty, officials from Washington County, as well as the Beaverton police chief and Washington County sheriff.
Bermes said these sessions provide an intimate gathering.
“We really get anywhere from 20 to 35,” she said. “It’s a small attendance, but it’s meant to be an intimate gathering. It’s not simply a presentation from this elected official; it’s a chance for you to connect with them one on one.”
Upcoming question and answer events will include Beaverton Police Chief Stacy Jepson on June 5, and Oregon Sen. Kate Lieber on Aug. 5. Washington County Commissioner Jason Snider is on tap in October.
Registration is required, and the cost is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Registration information is available at tinyurl.com/y4763rfd. Coffee and a continental breakfast are included.
The AC Hotel is located at 15705 N.W Blueridge Drive in Beaverton.
